Tom Turner always tells me that Bacerra was a genius! I believe him! Not only is the frame within a frame used in this composition, but also an "aperature" effect in the central square. As if the plate is a camera and it's about open and snap a picture. I also like how the sections in the center look like rearranged sherds of blue and white porcelain dishes.
Great plate!

The middle sections remind me of strip/crazy quilting too. Yes, nice one.
